It was a good ride, wasn’t it? The years of “enterprise social” and Web 2.0.
I’ll always look back fondly on the era where we thought we could change how people work across places and spaces with social technology, and when we believed that executives were going to lean in to employee engagement. We made a big dent in a lot of places. But our industry died when leaders decided that engagement was an unprofitable fad, and as AI started eating every other piece of tech for breakfast.
I hope that somewhere, some crazy smart folks with passion and know-how are tackling the challenge of employee communication, engagement, and treating people like people at work. Until then, find me on the farm raising pigs.
